Milan Runway Trend: Black & White

Milan Shoe of the Day: Roberto Cavalli
Roberto Cavalli hit his stride for spring with a sophisticated — yet still ultra-sexy — collection of silk cutaway dresses and fringed-front leather pants. The designer opted for sleek stilettos with a hard-rock edge for the footwear, showing multistrap booties and minimalist ankle-strap sandals in black, white and metallic python. Best of all, though, was this clean-lined gladiator sandal with double ankle straps. The raised footbed (an inverted platform of sorts), metallic gold stiletto and silver pointy toe add a futuristic bent to this sexy sandal.

Milan Shoe of the Day 9/22/12: Fendi
It’s no wonder Fendi’s already-strong shoe collection experienced an extra va-va-vroom for spring with the influence of footwear wunderkund Nicholas Kirkwood. The shoe designer collaborated with Karl Lagerfeld and his team for the first time to create a runway showing replete with multicolored, layered leather pumps and booties featuring studded heels. In this graphic pump, color-blocking hit new heights with mixed materials representing eight diverse shades. Only the pairing of team Kirkwood and Lagerfeld could make this many mixed elements look so refreshing, polished and downright fun.

Milan Shoe of the Day 9/20/12: Prada

Miuccia Prada knows how to turn heads. Though the stenciled separates, plush coats and graphic eyewear couldn’t be missed, geisha platforms and sandals worn with metallic leather socks were a major conversation starter at Prada’s spring show. The standout sandal leaped into the future with a silver architectural platform and strong chunky heel, while the hot-pink leather sock and tailored satin bows provided the mandatory Prada quirk. Whether this runway style will translate to the real world is yet to be determined, but with the designer’s record it certainly stands a chance.

Milan Shoe of the Day 9/19/12: GucciFrida Giannini kept it simple, at least when it came to the shoes. For Gucci’s spring ’13 offering, the creative director paired bright silk, monochromatic looks with elegant strappy sandals. A minimali
st white T-strap made for a sexy classic style, while the thick ankle brace and iconic gold hardware added the essential Gucci edge. The ready-to-wear collection might have had a distinctly 1970s spin, but this sleek sandal kept the line moving forward.
